i was looking at some 4in suspension lift kits for my 89 4x4 ranger and i was wondering what all do i have to get and or do to make it work besides the kit its self?

It all depends on what comes with the kit. You will need shocks, extended brake lines, drop pitman arm, adjustable camber bushings. These are some of things that are left out of some of the cheaper lift kits. Remember to do some research first, the more you spend the happier you will be and the less money you will spend in the long run replacing bad parts http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20
If the truck is gonna be used for actual wheeling stay away from the cheaper lifts some people get lucky and dont have problems but it all goes back to you get what you pay for. My lift is a combination of both James Duff (Long arms, HD shock hoops) Skyjacker Stage 2 (Axle drop brackets, Strings, pitman arm) and I did have to save up longer so that meant driving a smaller truck longer but I couldnt be happier now
