Its a 1996 auto. 4X4 with manual hubs and manual t-case. It will engage 4Lo but when I try to engage the 4Hi nothing will happen any ideas?

Yea sounds like maybe just the light isnt coming on? Drive around on some pavement after just doing 4H and see if you feel the shudder of 4wd working. If the shift motor can turn the T-case to 4L...then its turning it past 4H and should be able to put it there. Only thing i can think is the contacts in the shift motor are dirty and it cant position itself right.

And then i realize you said it was a manual t-case.......so i take back what i said. That sounds more like a question for AllanD about the internals of a T-case.

Find somewhere slippery, shift into where 4-high is on the transfer case, and see if you can get the front tires to spin.

okay so when i try to engage the 4Hi i dont hear a click or anything but when i move the lever down to 4Lo i feel it lock and the light comes on. However lol when i am on 4Lo the 4WD light comes on not the 4Lo light. This is what the knob looks like.

As far as I know in my old ranger it only had a 4x4 light no 4 high/4 low lights. Just because the lever doesn't click into 4hi doesn't mean it didn't engage. sounds like maybe the sensor for 4x4 is messed up and is thinking you are in 4hi even though you are in 4 low. Being that you have a manual Transfer case if you move the lever to the position it shifts, the electric t cases however like to be a pain and not shift sometimes.

well turns out the problem was me haha i just had to mess around and figure out were to the shifter. i feel pretty stupid but happy nothing was wrong with it. thanks a lot guys. :icon_cheers:
