Okay so I picked up a 4bt ve pump for my 97 ranger this weekend. I'm just trying to figure out what auto Trans I can use. I'm trading the Chevy adapter plate for a Ford one. So I need to figure out what Trans will work... help please!?

Any small block ford trans. Personally, I'd go with an E4OD and pick up a controller...

I was hoping to avoid the e40d. I don't have one at work (I manage a junkyard) & the one in my powerstroke is about to shit out. & I was thinking if an aod. But I haven't found anything on anyone swapping em.

What he said. or go with a dodge adapter and do a 47r, 727, 518, Ford adapters are a little pricey since they are more rare. Also depends what your plans are for the truck so you know what gearing you need to match your trans.

I have like 5 727s so I guess I could go with that haha

Just need a kick down cable and then gear it accordingly if you are using as a DD. probably in the 3.07 range if not 2.xx since it is not a OD trans.

My brother who was a ford dealer mechanic specialiiiiiizing in auto trans rebuilding for just about 20 years refers to the E4OD as the "E4Oh-No!"

IF you can score a ford adapter I'd likely be most inclined to go with a non overdrive trans, because most of the OD transmissions from ford are controlled by the PCM, lacking a ford PCM to control it how do you access the Overdrive gear?

use a idi controller and input sensors for the e4od. you can piggyback a early gasser eec4 as well but the wiring sucks for that. be easier and cost effective for most to just go to be controls. i like the e40d, though the 4r100 is a natural upgrade.

the aod, will work good as well, run a fixed pressure valve body with a few other related upgrades and it will be quite stout.

but it may be cheaper to use a be-controls controller and a solid used e4od or 4r100 then to upgrade the aod.

the lightest strogest solution would be a 4r70w.

i would just keep the chevy adapter and run a 4l80 myself with the breadtruck controller. cheap and easy.
