This is my first post although I have looked around this sight for over a year.

Well I picked up a '90 Ranger 2.3L 5 spd. off of Craigslist for $450. Body is straight and not rusted. The grille and front bumper are in great shape also. I swear every old Ranger I come across on Craigslist has a broke grille and bent bumper. The paint is faded black and the dash has a couple of cracks and interior needs a good cleaning. It's got new tires although they are on rusted rims.

The ad said that it ran great but had a broken timing belt. So I got it home and put a new timing belt on it. (anyone who wants to know you don't have to remove crank position sensor to change timing belt)

Changed the oil and filter. Also put a new fuel filter on it. Started right up and runs great. No leaks, doesn't burn oil. Just changed the break pads up front today.

My truck doesn't have gauge cluster with the tachometer. I was wondering if I can get '89-'92 gauge cluster w/tach and swap them out with no problems?

(Yes I straightened the bumber already)

I'll paint it in the spring.

Welcome to TRS~!

Nice little truck for the money...

Those are probably aluminum rims...at least they look exactly like the stock aluminum rims I've seen on many Rangers...they usually shine right up with a bit of cleaner and some elbow grease...never seen that type of rim rust before...hopefully that is the case for yours...

You can probably swap in a tach cluster...I know one member had a bunch of them but they were for first gen Rangers so you'd probably not want to try that conversion...but a junkyard would have them if you want to go shopping...I've driven two different Rangers (now merged into one) that didn't have a tach and never really missed it...nice to know sometimes where the RPMs are but I can usually tell just by the whine of the engine...but, sure, it can be done...

If you're already familiar with the site then you shouldn't have any problems either finding the answers you need or posting in the right forum to get input...enjoy!

Welcome!, i believe those rims are american racing judging by the center caps, in which case they might have been chrome and rusted. as far as i know the guage cluster should be plug and play,

Thanks guys. Yeah I have seen those clusters for anywhere from $50 to $70 on Ebay.

The rims seem almost like the outer part a kind of alloy like my '91 F150 factory rims. Then the inner part of the rims are rusted chrome plating. Probably going to take a wire wheel to them and then paint them. Also possibly going to look for the 14x6 rims off of a '93 or later model. I'll keep an eye out for a set of them on Craigslist. The brand name logo on the center cap is Grand Prix with a little checkered flag.
