4 wheel drivedoes not work

I am try to figure out why my 4 wheel drive does not work on my 2010 sport!? The light on the dash comes on but the hubs are not ingaging. Just wanting some ideas to maybe start looking? What are some common problems? Is there an acuator( i have been told there is and told there isnt)?! Maybe the tranfer case motor? Is there something as easy as a fuse? Vaccume lines?

2001 and up Rangers don't have automatic hubs, so Hubs are always engaged, like a Front wheel drive car

Shift motor on the transfer case engages the chain drive inside for the front drive shaft to be locked to rear drive shaft, then you have 4WD

If 4WD light on dash comes on when you select 4WD then shift motor is turning/working
Flashing 4WD light means motor is not turning
So problem is either in transfer case or front drive train

Front is a live axle, no hubs, no actuator, etc. The shift is 100% completed in the transfer case, maybe the motor isn't working properly causing it to only partially shift making the light come on but not really in 4WD.

Are you 100% certain the 4WD isn't working? Often times people don't think it is because in many driving situations you can't tell its in 4WD, it handles the same in both modes.

I'd put it on jack stands front and rear and put it in 4WD and see if everything is spinning. Front drive shaft installed?...yep that's been an issue for a couple people I know, never realized they bought a 4WD pickup that the PO decided for one reason or another the front drive shaft wasn't needed .

Recently I covernted my PVH over to live axles on my '99.

First, a noticeable difference in rolling quality.

Second, on a flat dirt surface it makes you wonder if the front is engaged but, when I need extra traction, there is no doubt at all it is engaged to 4x4.

Try a small hill or lumpy soft soil.
