4 plug head

I have a four plug head that has a roller cam in it. I'm not sure if its any good but was going to drop it off at a machine shop to get it checked out. Not really sure if it is a factory roller or one that was swapped. How can I tell the year? If I swapped it to a hydraulic cam do I just have to change the rocker arms? I'm getting rid of the FI and going back to a carb. I was trying to find out the cost differences for installing a after market roller cam or a hydraulic cam. Thanks for any info.

If you look near the top of this pile of threads, there's a tech article that describes Lima engines from oldest to newest, etc. The roller was factory from 89-94, and 95-00 with differences in valve stem diameter.
If you don't want it, I'll take it. All valve clearances in factory trim are hydraulic in that the support on the non-valve end of the cam follower is oil pressure adjusted.
If you want after-market, Esslinger and Racer Walsh are two that may have something to fit your needs. If you go away from EFI, expect less mpg, performance, and possibly a change in torque curve from removal of the upper intake.

Thanks for the help. I was thinking if I could use the same lifters if I swap back to a non roller it would be a bit cheaper. If it is a after market cam any ideas where or what markings it would have on it? Thanks again

The factory supports are all the same from what I know. They are also all hydraulic.

Only after-market cam/follower/support combinations were made with adjustable clearance. I believe there was a threaded tip & lock nut on the upper end of the support for mechanical lifter 2.3 cams. I do not own one.
If your roller cam is in good condition, it should last almost forever as they don't have the rubbing friction that followers had that preceded them.
Most non-OEM would not have a FoMoCo stamp or part number on the end or cast into them.
