I know all the other info on this well know issue. My question is can you test the neutral safety swith by starting the truck if it was bad wouldnt the truck not start in neutral. and the brake switch if the brake switch was out wouldnt your brake lights not work. This not w-wheel loo is driving me crazy I have replaced motors and every thing but still no lo range. wtf.

it is probably the what some refer to as the speed sensor. http://www.therangerstation.com/foru...ead.php?t=6383. look at the link it is the part circled in red. ohm between the green and blue wires you should get 250ohms to 450ohms anything more or less it is bad. that sensor tell the controller that you are not moving faster than 3mph. if it is bad the controller thinks you are moving faster than 3mph and will not let it shift into low. best bet is a junk yard the ford dealer here wanted 200.00 bucks for one. i got 3 at a junk yard for 5 bucks.

I put a new motor and sensor from junk yard. still no low. Just trying to get around from doing the ohm test because i have a speaker bok in the back so the wires are hard to get to . 1992 super cab. I teast the 4 lo button with test light and it lights up when pushing the 4 lo button. That whay I posted the above question about the nuetral safety. yes I have put it in 4 lo with pliers and all works good. Un less the new speed sensor is bad to. Is the any way to bypass the neutral saftey.

you can do they ohm test at the motor. just unplug the the motor and find the pins for the green and blue wire and ohm throught it there. when you replaced it did you cut the wires? an ohm test is the only way to find out it that switch is good. when i replaced mine it did not get a good connection so i had to redo the connection. ohm test is quick and easy. if your neutral safety switch was bad it would let you start the truck in any gear. if yours will only start in park or neutral your switch is good.

No I didnt cut the wires they were all together bought a t-case and 4x4 motor.($50) Could it have a 2 wheel drive neutral safety switch installed and thats why it starts corectly but the no 4 lo. The parts list a 4 prong and a 5 prong conctor. I would like t just bypass this prong. I have put like 3 differant 4x4 motors on and all do the same 4 hi only, I switched the 2 wires in the back of the push button and got 4 hi when pushing the 4 lo button so Im guessing that the 4 lo button works. thats why I think its the neutral switch. I dont have a ohm meter thats why I dont check it that way.

will your truck start in gear? if not your switch is good. i would not think there would be a difference in neutral safety switches. i could be wrong. i spent enough time trouble shooting this same issuse. you need a volt meter to see where you got power and where you dont an also so you can check ohm's. without a volt meter you are just guessing.. or replaceing parts until you find the bad one. save your self time and money a see if you can borrow/buy one to troubleshoot your issue.

there is difference in neutral saftey switches
according to autozone 1992 2 wheel drives uses a 4 pin and 4 wheel drive uses a 5 pin. for auto trans. see what you have on yours 4 or 5 pin. see if it will start in gear. i if you rule these out then it has to be the sensor i been saying. get a ohm meter and test.

Thats what it is. The person that owned the truck before me put a 2 wheel drive switch in(4 prong) So it worked all the other safety stuff. Just ordered the 5 prong to day. I traced the red/white wire up to the motor area grounded it out and BAM there it was 4 lo worked. Thanks for all that helped out. Guess there is something else to look for when no 4 lo....pass along.
