4x4 high works fine, lo it does nothing. its electronic that you can shift on the fly crap, could it be wiring or something? help mee

If it is infact the shift motor if you're properly trying to engage 4low then you can put your switch in 4low have someone on the brake and tap the shift motor with a hammer that may get it to shift to 4low, the motor is working if its shifting to 4high so that "shouldn't" need replacing yet, may just be some dirt built up in there that needs knocked loose.

Just curious but does your truck stay in 4wd high when u shift it into low or does it go out of 4wd and into 2wd? As 4x4rangerguy mentioned, you are not trying to shift into 4 lo on the fly right? you are stopped with your truck in neutral when you switch it?

I really wouldn't hit the shift motor with a hammer. You risk the chance of breaking the magnet.

Plenty of people do it including myself and have yet to hear of someone breaking the magnet doing it, but there is always a first, its a risk worth taking if you need that low gear.

I've seen the magnets broken.

In a jam it's easier just to take it off and shift it manually with a pair of pliers. It's also faily easy just to fix the shift motor the proper way. Either replace it or take it apart and clean it, then regrease it.

I've done it to mine and a friends. Both have been working well ever since.

Usually after one smack the shift motor is fine but rebuilding would be a more safer way if you've got the time for it.

Just sounds like he knows it shifts into 4hi on the fly and doesn't know that he has to have the truck stopped with the clutch in or auto in neutral and truck stopped to engage into 4x4 lo. Just my 2 cents.

sometimes when I am in neutral I would have to let it roll a little and then stop for the tcase to allow it to shift as it may not be completely released from in gear. You should be able to hear the motor click...if not then you have a problem....actually I think it is two clicks.
