Hi guys,I would like to buy a car and convert a swing axle rear suspension setup to a 4 link setup. But the car is a unibody, what I would like to know is where can I attach the links to the body so that they wont rip off the body?Should I reinforce the body...etc?Can someone please help me get a little more information.

A Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee forum might be a good place to look. I've been wondering the same thing, but the Ranger and the Willys beckon. Good luck.:icon_thumby:

awesome thanks for the link, looks good. But any idea's on who can tell us about the structural strength of a unibody?I have tried googling but no luck so far but will keep looking. Thanks for the help.

The torque box is about the strongest part under a unibody. If you look at the front and back of the pinch weld at the rockers, they should be a part that almost resembles a cross member probably 2-6" from the end of the pinch welds. Sometimes they go straight across, sometimes the angle forward, sometimes the go up, it just depends on the car. Generally they will have a number of holes cut in the face. Also, if the car has any type of radius arm/lower control arm link that goes forward, it will be mounted there. Or if you have a suspension cradle that goes far enough fowward, this is where it will be mounted to as well
Then there is always the frame rails, but some cars rails are hidden far enough back that you might not be able to use that for a mount.

That's really informative thank you,the car I am looking at has a swing axle rear setup.I want to put a 4 link rear end in it,do you think I can put pick up points for the links directly under the body if I reinforce the areas where the links should go if they don't reach the torque box?

I would be inclined to build a sub-frame. That would allow you to spread the load over a much larger area.
