i just bought a 94 ranger with electric shift and manual hubs. the only problem is the truck shifts into 4 high with no problems but when i press the low range button nothing , no clicking sounds from the back seat and the light wont come on. any ideas wat the problem might be?

is this a manual transmisson? you have to push the clutch in and push the button.

i don't know if you need to be in neutral with an automatic trans

Manual ... brake and clutch both applied

Auto ... Neutral/park and brake applied

Let us know if this fixes it.

Same problem, 4-high, no 4-low

I have the same problem, my truck is a 91 ranger 4x4 i just bought about a month ago. Tried with it in park with brakes applied and as well as neutral and still couldn't get nothing???:bawling::icon_confused::annoyed:

I have the same problem but half the time 4 hi dose not even work. Also if its damp out side when i start me truck the 4 hi and 4 low lights are on and do not respond to pressing the buttons. is there anyway to convert my transfer case to manual engagement and not electric?

Tech library has a link on how to swap in a manual case. It's been covered umpteen times.

With all transmissions manual or auto it must be in neutral. My 93 with pushbutton and manual tranny has to be in neutral to get the 4 low to kick in. And when i want out of 4 low, I have to reverse about 6 inches to release the tension of the tranfer case so it will disengage the 4 low, again in neutral).

"My problem fixed a few months ago, sorry for the delay in response" I went to "Part's Galore" (Local pull it yourself junkyard) and found two identical used shift motors one from a '94 ranger and the other a '93 explorer. got home and tried the one from the explorer and worked like a charm no problems since, so now I have a spare that hopefully works too. So try that out if you can

On my truck the problem was the connector to the ECM.
