4 door ranger issues

4 door Ext. cab Ranger issues

so my bro's 4 door Ranger has a new issue. one of the rear doors wont open, and seems like something inside of the latch popped loose. he says that the handle wont do anything. its just dead.

any idea on how to open it and what could be damaged/broken?

It sounds like one of the rods popped off. It will require removing the inner panel to get to it, that might be a challenge if the door won't open. You might be able to lower the window and work the latch from there but it will be a bit of a challenge. good luck

well its a 4 door ext cab, sorry i didnt specified that LOL

The rear latches 4-door's are known for being trouble. The passenger side lower latch on my truck is froze open, so the bottom of the door never latches shut (i should get on fixing that). Probably the best route of attack would be to push the seats forward and get in the back. Take the door panel off and see if anything snapped (cable wise) and then move onto trying to get the latches open. My father's Fx4 had the passenger side rear door do the same thing you are describing, and the local ford garage ended up replacing the top and bottom latches.

I suppose i should be asking the same question, are we talking an extended cab 4-door or a crew cab 4-door RSH?

its an ext. cab 4 door...ford has a updated latch that you need to get a new pigtail for the lower latch because off the sticky door ajar switch...you can take the panel off while the door is shut and take out the pack of drugs ford puts in the doors and you can see the latch to the right, which is a pain to get to

ohh i thought i couldnt take the panel off without opening the door.
well seems like the cable is loose on the door handle.
ill try to fix it.

Check the cable ends. If they are broken, it can cause some of the same problems. Try this.
