Going to test drive a 2000 Ford F150 with a 4.2L V6 on Monday. The only owner of the truck has been our neighbor over 15 years. There are some typical ford issues with the truck, but hes only asking 1200. Anyways, ive been cruising up and down the internet on some 4.2 parts and what not, and was just curious if anyone had ever tackled building one of these. Eventually (i.e. in the next 1-3 years), i slowly plan on building the truck into a daily driver/weekend dune toy. I know the typical route would be to snag either a 351 or a 5.4 from a newer truck. Just doing some off the wall thinking and would like to know if it would be worth putting time and money into the 4.2. Not looking for insane numbers on the dyno, but enough pep in the pedal to get up and go. Thoughts, comments, hate mail? Thanks guys.

Go with the 5.4l........ built up 4.2l engines don't last long. Not worth the time money or effort. But if that's the way you want to go then this lot can help you figure it out.
