Alright guys so just like my last thread, I've done my research but I like some reassurance to make sure what I think is correct. I have a 2004 ranger Edge v6 3.0. Axle code is 97 (8.8 open, 4.10 gears). I just put 31.6" tires on so I want to put 4.56 gears in to try to get back to normal performance. Is it possible to put the 8.8 l/s 4.56 or do I have to stick with the open. And when I say possible I mean as a direct swap without having to do too much extra work. Thanks for all the help guys.

Since you're already doing the gears, adding a limited slip (or most full-carrier lockers) should be nothing extra besides cost of the unit itself.

Guessing 265/75R16 tires? 4.56 should be fine for those

Awesome! Thanks for all the help, and you nailed it on the tire size. Now I'm off to find me an axle.

No prob. Good luck with it. :icon_thumby:

This should improve gas mileage right? Is that still the case if you are doing a lot of highway driving @75mph?

Should be fine. The 3.0L is a revver, it'll happily spin along at 3000 RPM all day long if needed.
At 75 MPH you'll probably be around 2750-2900 RPM (you didn't say if you have a stick or auto).

The simple act of going 75 MPH itself isn't so conducive toward getting good MPG however... :no2:

im in the same boat as the PO. i have a 3.0 5spd with 4.10s also. im running 32x11.50 tires. i was thinking 4.56 but been leaning towards 4.88 and 33s when the 32s wear out. i was turning about 2800-2900 stock with 235/75 @ 70. I seem to spin both tires when they spin. my truck stays on the pavement and doesnt need a locker. im just looking for a r&p swap. is that something that can be done with stock carrier?

I have an auto. I'm leaning towards just doing an R&P swap as well. But I'll never go bigger on the tires so I'm gonna do 4.56 of anything. Thanks again guys.

I have an auto.
So probably around 2750-2800 RPM (auto has a slightly steeper OD gear than the stickshift).
I'd still grab a low-mileage junkyard L/S diff and just have them throw it in there. Open diffs suck lol.

Definitely 4.88 if 33s are in your future. :icon_thumby:
