I been driving with my new 4.0l and love it. but it seems my 4.10 is way to low for 30's. am i wrong and should just enjoy my new found found torque?

with 30's 3.75 is the max i would have gone. but now you can go up to bigger tires like 33's and never have to change gears

I don't plan on going bigger since that will requiring a 4" lift and i like the way it sits.
I just put on 30's since i got a deal on them, i was planing on going back to 235/75/15 after this set is worn out.

If you aren't liking how it is now than I wouldn't go back to a 235/75/15 since it would be even torquier. 4.10 and 30s aren't bad. Hell 4.10s and 31s get you back to factory performance so you aren't too far from that.

I really don't want to do a 4inch lift to install 31's
The 30 are a close fit as it is. i guess i'll have to drive slower.

trim a little? make 31's fit? i love the way 4.10's and 31's or 30's are.. which is why i want lower gears when i do 33's... lol.

how about a budget boost? shackles or blocks and 2 inch coil spacers.... good for 2 inches of lift, should fit 31's right?

I have already did skyjackers level coils in front. i don't think i can do washers and still get it aligned.

well, just enjoy your torque! lol

Really? I had a 88 B2 with 4.10 gears, and I ran 31x10.50r15... They rubbed on the sway bar at full turn, but thats all. I just removed it...
I loved the way it ran, although I only had a 2.9l. In fact, Im putting those axles under my newer 2.9l 89 b2 that I bought to replace the old one, 'cause it has 3.73 gears in it... (doing axle swap when lift brackets show up in the mail. adding blocks and explorer leafs to the back, brackets, explorer coils, and spacers up front til I get longer coils.) If you havn't bought adjustable caster bushings yet, you can still do a lot of aligning with them.

edit - you are running a 4.0 in a 87 Ranger? That is probably causing the front end to sag.
Fitting 31s shouldn't be too hard on an 87 ranger....

Maybe the thing to do is move the power up abit so it does not fall flat at 3000.

I do have adjustable caster bushings, i just need to learn to do the alignment myself since no one can do it right.
i can see getting 31's under a b2 since there a lot lighter than a xcab ranger

Lighter? sure. but not by that much... Once you add that 4.0, its a new ballpark though.
And I am talking about a bone-stock truck with over 300 000km on it. I guess I did trim the fenders on it, before I got the tires, so Im not really sure if they would have interfered, but I dont really think so...

Where do you think you would into problems with fitment?

i am pretty sure 31's will start to hit the fenders. since i have a D35 thy stick out of the wheel wells abit

fwiw, i didn't like my 4L sohc with my 31's there is just too much torque on 4.10's, tires spin and skip around corners (torsen) too much... though with the 33's it's about perfect...

if you are worried about hitting the fenders, just make up some bump stops... i'm going to make a set for the rear of my truck... either that, or relocate the shocks on the rear, so i can get the stock blocks back under, with the expo leafs, and shackles...

Ahhh you have the d35 too. Is that a Ranger or Explorer axle? I think the explorer is slightly wider, but not 100% on that...

That puts it in a new ballpark I guess.
If you cant fit it, trim those bitches...
Not many things make a truck look more aggressive then giant wheel wells.
