ok here is what i have, I just aquired a 1966 bronco, i has a tired 170 6cyl, i was thinking i could swap in a 4.0l with a c4, what do you guys suggest or think about that idea?

Just out of curiousity, why a 4.0L?? If you got a EB, why not V8?? 302's are so common, and they make factory motor mounts for them...
SVT

yep and you can get instruction for building a wiring harness from scratch for a EFI 5.0L into an EB

i have a rnager 4.0l and an eb with a 347 stroker. Don't waste your time with a 4.0l, unless you want gas milage. even then if you take it easy a 5.0l isn't far off a 4.0l

Why are we digging all these ancient threads out from the grave?

It may be ancient but it isn't one I've ever seen,

greazynutz joined 01SEP and dredging up ancient posts is something newb's do...

but for the record:

YEARS ago I helped a guy who was TRYING to install a replacement engine into a 1966(first year) shoebox bronco.

the original 170 was long dead and it had a 200-L6 in it (Equally dead)

The first attempt was a 302, the owner reasoned that since ford sold them with a V8 that you could swap a V8 into one. Uhhhh... No.

the V8 wasn't offered until later (1973?) and the earlier ones would essentially only accept the small block inline six.

Eventually we wound up swapping in a 250cid six from a Maverick into it.

I suppose it's POSSIBLE to swap a V8 into an early one, but after
seeing that 302 in that 66 engine bay I'm convinced it would have taken a couple serious shots against the firewall with a backhoe to make enough room

LAstly? Given a choice between a 302 2bbl and a 4.0 engine the ONLY advantage the 302 has is that it's flywheel accepts a larger clutch.

Power torque and the rpm at which these things happen all favor the 4.0.
