Hi all,
I apologize in advance but i read the technical section and was searching for the past few days to no avail. I have a 94 ranger 4.0l with a blown engine and am getting a good running low kms 99 ranger 4.0l parts truck, the 94 is a 5 speed and my question is will the 99 4.0l bolt straight up to the 94 5 speed? also any other hiccups i may run into? Im not sure what trans is in the 99 yet, i will know tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any help, i'm really excited about this swap. :)

I don't know if there's a difference between manual and automatics, but I'm pretty sure when people do the sohc swap it bolts right up but is recommended to get the beefier trans, and being a 99 it could be one of two engines.

The 4.0L OHV engine was produced until 2000 and was used in the Ford Explorer and Ranger. Output was 160hp and 225 ft·lbf. Though there is some variation, typically 155hp is quoted as horsepower for 1990-1992 applications.

In 1998 the 4.0L SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) engine replaced the 4.0L OHV engine producing 207hp.

Nope. They used the SOHC engine as an option in explorers from '97. It was NOT available in rangers until 2001...

I did some more digging, so it looks like the 99 is just a OHV with obd2. So it should bolt up, just some wiring routing?

Just swap all your 94 sensors, harness, intake, etc onto the 99 engine and you will be good to go. The 94 flywheel wont
work on the 99 though.

They went to 8 bolt pattern in late 97. The 94 clutch should bolt to the newer flywheel though.
