First post here, and likely not last.

I have a 2001 Ranger with the 4.0l SOHC engine with around 118000mi on it. For some background I bought the truck a year ago from a guy who adored it and it was serviced to a T, with some questionable fixes that aren't major.
I do not know if he has put in the fixed guides and tensioners, not that it matters too much at the moment. A few months ago I heard a tick on back of the engine, not loud at all, knew these engines had timing chain tensioner problems. You can hear it from both sides if you lean your head down on hood. I'm just wondering if this is the dreaded tensioners, and if I can put off the repair until spring comes around (it's cold outside I don't have a garage). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Linked video of it idling:

In anycase, if you have no record of the tensioners being replaced, assume they haven't been replaced. The mileage you quote is a bit longer than we recommend on here for changing them but not horribly long. Change them about every 70,000 - 100,000 miles. I prefer every 70K.

I made it public now, should work hopefully. But yes I was just waiting for a sign to change them, and I think it is now. I daily drive it so I hope they can go until spring.

I didn't hear anything that seemed out of the ordinary to me.

Yes if you listen too closely you're going to hear all kinds of noises. That ticking is probably the injectors I had the same trouble with my engine but I believe I was worrying for nothing.
