First post here, and likely not last.
I have a 2001 Ranger with the 4.0l SOHC engine with around 118000mi on it. For some background I bought the truck a year ago from a guy who adored it and it was serviced to a T, with some questionable fixes that aren't major.
I do not know if he has put in the fixed guides and tensioners, not that it matters too much at the moment. A few months ago I heard a tick on back of the engine, not loud at all, knew these engines had timing chain tensioner problems. You can hear it from both sides if you lean your head down on hood. I'm just wondering if this is the dreaded tensioners, and if I can put off the repair until spring comes around (it's cold outside I don't have a garage). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
