hey guys my 4.0L in my truck is getting tired i think, and well im sure the tranny ain't too far behind, good ol A4LD hahaha, just wondering if its worth rebuilding it, or finding a SOHC 4.0L somewhere and throwing that in, and if thats the better route, how different are those motors? cuz i ain't gonna lie, if its too much of a pain in a$$ to change out, i'd rather just rebuild it...

I got a motorcraft short block for $495, having heads reworked local with all new goodies for around $450, with incidentals; oil pump, $37 a piece lifters, pushrods, rockers, water pump, gaskets, oil filter, I'm right now at about $1,500. Also went to the flex a lite electric fan (always wanted one) replaced two mechanical fans in last 4 years (pain in the other end). But thinking maybe I should have just went with a 17" flex fan and a 3-4 inch spacer for reliability. Still ain't in and running yet, but that's the tally so far. Oh had 189,000 miles on it with a faithful lifter tick and a crack between cylinders 1-2 for the last couple years, but got real bad. Thinking maybe I should have welded it and ran it till she blew.

well if i were going to pull the motor i would just rebuild it. that way it will go in easier. the only rel difference between the SOHC and OHV is the cam. in an SOHC there is a cam in eache head, and an OHV the cam is in the block and hhas all the push rods and what not. and if you just rbuild your motor you wont have to find another motor. you can take that money and have you block re machined(and if you look in the tech library you can find stroker kits) and then it will be like new and you/'l have alot more power. and i would also get some differnt heads(which you can find links through the tech library) so you can get even more power.
