4.0L Auto 4x4 vs 3.0L 2WD

I was going to have trans rebuilt soon, it is on a 1995 4.0L automatic 4x4, then I can across a guy on cl selling a 1995 3.0L 2wd. His truck just had the trans rebuilt 50 miles ago and then the engine locked up on him. So for the price of a tran rebuild I can get the whole truck.

My question is can I simply swap the bell housing and put my transfer case on the trans out of the 3.0l? I've done some reading and know the bell housing is swappable I'm just not sure about the t-case.

I know I'm new here but I thought there would be more helpful information than "nope nope nope"

I didn't end up buying the truck anyway but in case the situation comes up again can someone please explain why its not compatible.

I have read on this very site that the insides are the same and you can swap the bell housing w/pump. And according to another post they only used one kind of transfer case after 1992. So that only leaves that the physical case is shorter or longer or something along those lines.

2wd output shafts are different than 4wd output shafts. Removing/replacing the output shaft involves completely disassembling and basically rebuilding the transmission anyway.
