ok i have a 1994 ford ranger 4 liter with the al4d tranmission...a throttal body spacer, the pvc intake as seen on this site.

But my problem is that when im idling the engine is smooth....but driving down the road trying to accelerate without it down shifting is a differnt story. I bogs and acts like its missing.

So i checked the spark plugs. All were good, except the rear two on driver side dirrectly below the vacume lines fittings. They had some oil so i did a compression test to see if a head gasket was blown. nope all read 170-180.i then noticed the vacum modulator valve was leaking tranny fluid into engine cause o2 to go bad. and showing presence or oil... And then i checked the fuel pressure regulator line and fuel poored out.
And it still not fixed.

HELP

Get some MAF cleaner from parts store and unplug, remove ur mass air flow sensor and clean it let it dry and hook back up . I had the smae problem as you do and that fixed mine.

ive already tried the cleaner but it changed some but not much.....Maybe im not cleaning it right. Any other thoughts. Oh and it does it everytime i start up. Unless it stone cold and i start it and go and just keep it in first on the way out of my neighbor hood it wont do it. But if i start warm itll do it of and one for a few miniutes regarless. Even if i gets shut of the restarted 20 seconds later it'll do it.

What im thinking is that maybe wiring or somthing to the mass airflow is screwy. How can i test mass airflow with ohm meter and the conector too. What should everything read.
