I always wondered if the engine damper on Ford 4.0 V6 is really necessary. Has anyone put one on a 4.0 that had a worn out one and noticed a difference?

I noticed my was leaking and suspect it is no good. However there are not replacements for the original p/n FOTZ6F085A that I have been able to find. It must mean no one is replacing them.

Really necessary? I would guess no. Yours is the first 4.0L Ranger I've ever heard of having one. My 99 4.0L doesn't have it, and I've never seen it on any Ranger in a salvage yard.

a lot of em have it, the 2nd and 3rd gen ones anyways. my donor had it, but i didnt put it on my truck when i swapped engines. no noticeable issues...

Same here, SVT had one, and HWW has one, but its not going back on. Not really needed since the SOHC engines make more torque, and don't use one...

My 94 engine had (well part of) one. I have no idea where it's at now..

No, that little shock is not needed. It was put on because the 4.0 was a bit harsh and people were complaining their V6 truck didn't feel like a V8 car.
