i currently have a 5sp 4.0 4x4 and hoping around this time next year to switching it over to a 5.0.(i want to get an idea of everything im gonna need to do before swapping over) i heard a lot of stories of the 5.0 completely stock kept blowing out the stock rear end of the ranger....that being said, does anyone know a good rear end to put it? mustang or explorer, or even jeep?
and how hard is it to find a 4x4 5.0 trans? only explorerers right?

The manual most use in a 4x4 swap is one out of a F-150, Explorers were AWD and auto's. The stock 8.8 in all 4.0L Rangers is good enough for most applications, it's the 7.5 that goes bad. All depends on power level, gearing and tire size as to how much torque any rear will take. Best do some reading up in the tech library for more info.

ok, i always thought that it was taken from explorers, i know some manuals were made for the exploreres, but didnt think of taking it out of a 150. thank you

My 7.5 is taking the abuse that I have been putting it through with my 5.0 but it's only a matter of time before the spider gears grenade on me. My last 7.5 grenaded with a 2.3 on stock tires, unkown why it did though.
