Hey I was wondering if anyone knows any information or has done a swap from a 4.0 to the overhead cam model. My Ranger is a 98 4X4. I don't think the computer will be much of an issue because the are both OBDII's. I figure I will need the ECM for sure but other than that I am not sure if my manual tranny will moment up to the SOHC. I was looking at a couple in the local junk yard and all the motor monts look the same. If anyone has any info I would love the help. Thanks
Zach

i think all you need to do i swap all the wiring under the hood from the ohv to the sohc and you will be fine...with the computer of course...i think

Engine/Trans wiring harness, obviously the engine, you'd need a trans(SOHC trans work on OHV's but not the other way around...you'll be missing a bolt), a PCM for the SOHC. Overall should be almost a total direct swap. I'd use a Rogue Performance tuner to tune the PCM and delete the PATS that'll be written into the donor PCM. There's threads asking about the OHV to SOHC swaps....I've posted links in those to a guy on RF who did the swap.

FWIW: If I could buy my truck all over again, I would have gotten a 2000 OHV because of the timing chain issues the early SOHC's suffered from(mine included....swapped in a '06 4.0 a few months back). BUT....my buddy has about the same exact truck as mine...same ratio, same tire size, same cab, 4wd, but he's got the OHV and I've got the SOHC. And off the line, he's got me, but as soon as I get in the high rpm's, I pull away from him.
