I have a 1989 Bronco II that needs a motor. I got a 4.0 engine from a 1998 Explorer 4x4. I also got the underhood wiring harness, power distribution box, all the cables, automatic transmission, transfer case, drive shafts and the rear axle. The question: Has anyone used this engine year model for a swap? Everything that I read about says that I should use a 91-94 engine. But I got a super deal on this and couldnt turn it down. Thanks for any help that can be given.

Is the 4.0 a OHV or SOHC?
Either way the transfer case to front end may be a problem, different type of connection on the drive shaft.

What if I use the transfer case from the Bronco II? Or I could get the front axle from the Explorer if it would fit under the Bronco II. And it's a SOHC.
