4.0 sohc years

Hello all, i bought a 98 XLT 4x4 5 speed yesterday, not knowing anything about the infamous sohc. Would a 98 ranger have an ohv or sohc?

98 Ranger would have an OHV. An Explorer could go either way.

I thought 97 was last year for ohv? cuz they changed body styles in 98 and changing 4.0 to sohc too?

No. The Ranger changed body styles again in 2001 and THAT'S when they changed to the SOHC.

The SOHC was first available in Explorers in 1997 as an OPTIONAL engine (4.0 OHV was still available in Explorers up until 2001).

The 4.0 OHV was officially discontinued for ALL vehicles for 2001.
