I have searched all over for some info on this engine swap. I got a 2001 ranger 4x4 that was rolled over. It has a 4.0 sohc motor that I would love to slide into my B2. I understand that the heads are larger than the 4.0 OHV and am concerned about interferance with the hvac plenum. Does anybody have any info on this swap? I have a 89 B2 with a 2.9 V6 and a 2" body lift. I figure at worst I will just have to give it a shot. Someone has to be first. Thanks for looking.

If I am not mistaken you will also need the tranny to swap in because the bellhousing pattern is different. I think manual would be no problem, but the auto is computer controlled and might be a bit more complicated.

from what i understand you do not need to swap the transmission because the bolt patterns are the same except for 1 bolt hole, and the engine is drilled for both patterns and even if the engine were not i wouldn't sweat 1 bellhousing bolt.

getting a manual trans computer is all that it would take to make it all work. but the donor vehicle and its anti-theft system will cause a few hiccups

or you can do a stand alone computer for $1,700-$5,000

Yeah I just double checked some of the other forums about trans swaps and they say one bolt doesn't line up but it's no big deal.

Go to the link in my sig... has all the info you need...

You just need to decide if you wanna go EEC-5 or not...
