I just bought a 2011 Ford Ranger Sport with 34k miles. It has the 4.0 Sohc and a 5 speed manual transmission behind it. I was wondering Do I need to worry about any timing chain problems on this truck, (I.E.) Guides, tensioner's or anything else that will mess up the motor? I have seen other places that say ford put out a better part that would prevent these problems just looking for the most info I can before any problems start. I'm hoping nothing does but I'd rather be safe then sorry. Thanks for your time.

Yes, the tensioners and guides on the 4.0 SOHC were a problem in the beginning, and yes a revised set of parts was released. They were being installed in production (at the factory) by 2006.

As long as you keep up with the oil changes and don't use sub-standard oil you should be fine. I am pretty picky about using Motorcraft oil in my 05 and my dad's 06.
