Helping my brother replace rockers and pushrods in his 91 Explorer, 4.0. We're ready to put it back together and noticed the rocker shaft bolts are torque to yeild. Advanced Auto parts shows "brackets" with bolts for $50 per side. This is unexpected and un budgeted, not to mention the time crunch e are in.
Can one typically get away with reusing them?

We needed to get it back together so we just re used the old ones. 24 ft/lbs + 90 degrees. Nothing broke. I hope they hold for a while.

typically torque to yield bolts should NOT be reused, but I have had to whenever I was in a money crunch as well.

You can usually examine the threads, if they are "stretched" the spacing will not be equal and precise you can actually see where they have stretched when torqued. Ive reused two sets of head bolts on a 4cylinder and had no issues 60k miles later.

That is what I was hoping to hear... since we already used them.
I told him if they start making noise again, he'll know why.

Or the only noise he will hear is a bang as the bolts break LOL! ( hopefully not )
