Just bought a '92 Explorer with 225,000 miles on it. Visual condition is very good and well maintained. Motor was not running. Seller said it stopped one day going down the road and began smoking.
Once we got fuel back into it, it fired up but has a miss, taps a little in the driver side valve train, and produces a little blue smoke while running.
I don't know if these conditions existed before it stopped on the seller or not.
Is it worth going into the valve cover(s) to attempt repair? What is the history of the motor with tapping? I have a good 4.0 the swap if that would be the simpler route to go.
What are your thoughts?
