I just finished a 1987 2.9 to a 1991 4.0 swap and rebuilt the 4.0 on the rebuild I noticed that the oil galley that goes from the oil pump to the oil filter was a 3/8 hole and the oil pump had a 1/2 hole. I drilled the galley out to 7/16, we use to do this on the old FE 360 - 390 engines, it makes a big differance, I didn't put a gauge on the 4.0 before the rebuild so I do not know how much gain there was but the more oil volume the better. I also wondered if any one has tried to put 2.9 rocker assemblies and pushrods in a 4.0, they looked better designed to me but I just put the 4.0 stuff in for now. When I did the wiring on my swap I decided to use the pluggins on both wireing harnesses and make the splices in between so if I ever wanted to put a 2.9 back in the ranger... (god knows why) or use the 4.0 in somthing else... (more Likely)I wouldnt have chopped up ether the engine harness or the body harness in my 87'. to better explain what I did... I chopped the plugins off of the engine harness of the 2.9 and chopped the plugins off of the exploder body harness and made all of my splices between the two. So I did end up with two connections on every wire basically, but I don't have the big connector on the firewall like the exploder had so I considered it to be 6's
