I just bought my dream truck, 1993 Ranger Super cab 4x4. I got it for $750. I knew at the time the clutch was slipping, but when I put it up on blocks I found an oil leak. It appears to be coming from the rear engine seal. Since I am removing the tranny anyway, how hard is it to replace the rear seal?

great question! I too am leaking there. Is the clutch in the transmission?

It is not particularly hard, if I remember right you will need to drop the oil pan and loosen the bolts on one crank bearing cap to get the seal out.

BOL, the clutch is between the engine and transmission.

it takes like 10 min once the trannys out. just take off the flywheel and pop out the seal just try not to nick the crank

im not trying to be an asshole or anything like that. but if you dont know where the clutch is replaceing the rear seal isnt a job for you. since you have to remove the drive shafts, tcase, tranny, clutch, fly wheel, and a few other little things. if your not very good with tools i wouldn't suggest doing this with out some help. I just dont want to see you get in over your head and not be able to get your truck back together. both of mine on my truck are leaking i just keep adding oil.
