Will a 4.0 from a 97' Ranger fit in a 99' Ranger and be operable? The salvage yard told me wouldn't work. I have the 97' motor and a guy with a 99' wants to buy it if it will work. Can't find much info on the block casting number either, any ideas?

If the 99 is an OHV, then it is a direct bolt in. You will possibly need to buy a flywheel/flex plate for the 99. In late 97 they switched from a 6 bolt crank to an 8 bolt. Everything else is the same as far functionality.

Is there anything he'll have to swap out? As for the flywheel, I have it and was going to give it to him also.

Just the flywheel IF his is a 6 bolt. Assuming the 99 engine is complete with crank pulley, everything else will bolt up.

If he wants to replace timing chain make sure its ordered for a 99.
