I've got a 1998 Ranger with a 4.0 that has been puched 30 over and has a comp 500 lift 288 duration cam and has had the heads worked. It blew up on me last night and i was thinking about going ahead and putting my GT40P motor in but i am wondering if i should just go ahead and just puyt the V8 in it? Opinions?

if the 4.0 blew up and is unrepairable and you have everything for the 5.0 swap i would do that

what he said^ If you've got the motor and everything to do it, do it. Obviously emissions isn't a problem for you.

5.0.

its a lot less work for a 5.0 to push 300HP than it is a 4.0...thus the 5.0 will be more reliable.

I finally sold my 07 dodge so now I can put a motor in my ranger I'm just going to go with a 4.0 for now. I'm also trying to find a company that makes a supercharger for the OHV motor. I have found alot of places to get them for the SOHC. Does anyone know who makes one or has a kit to make one fit? Pics to come later.

OHV has to be made nowadays. BBK used to make a kit for the 4.0 but it is no longer in production.

Yeah I saw where bbk use to make a kit for my engine but I can't find anything with google or ebay. I saw one on another thread but he didn't know who made it and now he's banned for some reason

knight industries is one of them I think???

Yes knight is one of them and if you look in the tech library under ranger engines and go to 4.0 there is some info on supercharging 4.0's.

Does anyone know the website for Knight I googled it and can't find a place that makes those kind of parts?

www.boosthead.com is the site for Knight Industries.

He does list a supercharger for the 4.0 OHV.

At $3995, it's not exactly cheap though.

Thanks I found it and yeah thats high but if I could get 525 RWHP out of it that would be one nasty V6 engine

With out dropping tens of thousands of dollars you arent going reach that number if not ever. Everyone that has ever bought a knight product that I have known of has said his stuff is crap. Plus would you really buy a product from someone who also sells an electric supercharger? I hope not.
