New to the forum. I have a 99' ranger 4.0 x vin 5 spd tranny. Coming home from work it work it over heated I checked the radiator, it was empty. It had suck all fluid into the block. I found a replacement motor from a mazda. After buying the engine I have realized there are a few differences. 1. The mazda was an automatic. 2. The mazda engine has two fuel lines, I assume a supply and return? My engine only has one. 3. It appears on the back Of the mazda block are two block shaped connectors that mine doesn't have. My question is can I make this engine work after having paying for it relying on the guy at the salvage yards word?

It should be possible as long as both are OHV. You might have to use just the long block.

I think the exhaust manifolds are compatible for all years of the OHV so you shouldn't have to worry about that. I can't see why they'd change the accessory drive, so that just leaves the intake.

It sounds like your replacement engine came from an earlier model. Can you take some pics so we can see what they've done to you?

Should be extremely doable. Put your intakes, fuel rails, sensors, and the like on the new engine, and go.

You may need to get a new flywheel, your '99 flywheel will be 8 bolt on crank flange, '96 and older 4.0l OHV had 6 bolt flywheel.
If other 4.0l is a '97 you may be good :)

Clutch hardware may also be different for '96 and older flywheel???

Not sure what the "block" connectors are, oil pressure sender is the only thing I can think of, most of the other connections are on the lower and upper intake
