No this is not about making more power from the 4.0 if I wanted more power I would go with a 5.0, this is about reliability. Although power gains would be nice, but lifted geared and locked the 4.0 has plenty of power to go around. Any who...

The 4.0 is already a reliable engine. With a stronger kit how much more reliable would it be? I know it'll give tthe engine forged internals. And a bit more power paired with a new cam would see decent gains.

The 4.0 wasn't designed to turn 5k rpms for long periods. How would a stroker affect this. I myself never take it above 4 grand... its just not in the power band and I have more gears.

Seeing as I have a 300k mile 4.0 in the truck. A 90k mile 4.0 in the shed waiting to replace the current one. And a 60k mile 4.0 at the inlaws junk yard waiting for me. And I don't want things to get complicated with a 5.0 that I don't need. Maybe ill do a slow build up of a stroked 4.0

I don't see the stroker kit doing much for reliability. The 4.0 is already a fairly sturdy engine that doesn't have issues with tearing itself apart, so I don't see forged internals being tons of help sine they would be beefing it up in an area that isn't a problem.

Stroker kits are usually for upping the torque and a longer stroke is going to make the engine turn slower. The biggest effect of stroker kit is usually to make the internals harder to get and more expensive to replace.

If it's reliability you are after higher piston speeds are not going to help you. I wouldn't stroke it.

Any one know if you can buy forged internals without stroking it?

Is reliability really even an issue with the 4.0? I mean, you have 300,000 miles on the current motor...in my estimation that's a pretty good case of reliability you've got there. And, it's still running, right?

Of course you're free to do what you like, but it's like someone saying, "I have $47 million. Anyone know how I could spend a bunch of it so I could get $10 more?" Nothing wrong with ten more dollars, but with $47 million, what's the point? Just seems like you might do better for yourself putting your dollars into areas there would be a better rate of return.

go to supersixmotorsports.com and check out their 4.0 to 4.3 stroker kits. but its not a reliability upgrade, unless your gonna run boost. then you need the stronger internals.

Thought about putting a super charger on a 4.0. But for the cost of all that I could swap a 5.0 and have the same power on demand.

More than any thing I was just trying to put in terms how a stroker kit would help. 30 HP ain't much. And the 4.0 is a great engine.
