I was wondering what the oil pressure should be for a 1991 ranger 4.o ohv when i am at a stop light?

It varies widely depending on oil temperature and the oil viscosity being used.

Around 20psi with a completely warmed up engine with an M/T idling at ~800rpm
running on 5w-30 oil

Any lower is cause for concern

does it fluctuate or just drop below the halfway mark on the gage? if it fluctuates it could be an oil pump prob. i dont know what causes it to drop. i have a chevy silverado witha 350 that my wife drives and when i come to a stop with it in gear, the gage drops down to about a quarter.

Don't rely on the stock gauge at all, its only an 'idiot' gauge. It will read normal once oil pressure hits around 6 or 7 psi.

mine reads 60 psi cold with 5w-30 and about 20 psi after fully warmed up

( 195 on the thermostat .... )
