Thats not EGR. That is the charcoal canister for your gas tank. Its 50-state emissions equipment. EGR is a tube covered in fiberglass from the driver side exhaust manifold up to the intake manifold.

The egr is really annoying but if you can get a pipe wrench on it, its not the end of the world. The manifold is discontinued but the tube and the adapter pipe fitting are both made.

The CA/NY emissions cars are actually better in my opinion. They got sequential fuel injection instead of the 50-state multibank so it runs better and more efficiently.

Just an update for us (the OP). EGR was "damaged" and had to be removed. Of course, I do need to figure out the electrical part of the EGR removal, but until then, it's out of the way permanently. Continuing on with the valve cover removal (once the rain stops).
