I'm about to put a motor in my ranger but want to get more power out of it I've already put the aluminum intake on it off a 94 4.0. I already have heads off new motor is there anything I can do to get more power without spending too much money
All help is greatly appreciated thanks

port n polish the heads

Switch to an electric radiator fan.
Belt driven fan uses horse power all the time.
E-fan only uses a little, via alternator, and only when it is on which is usually only when stopped(no air flow thru rad).

4.0l OHV(1990-2000) was originally a 2.6l engine, it was then bored out to a 2.9l and ultimately a 4.0l, so not alot of room for growth in that respect.
You can Stroke them but it is expensive.

Chips do NOT work, just FYI.

Lighten the load, power to weight is important, the lighter the vehicle the more usable power it has.

Best upgrade is a V8 5.0l from Explorer :)
