OK boys, had a question posed to me, and without just diving in, I could not answer it, so I have come to ya'll. We have a bad engine in a 1999 Ranger, and we have located a low mileage 2003 engine. Can a swap happen without any major component integration problems, or are these the same engines and with the same basic components, wiring would be the biggest concern. We do not have the donor truck. BTW, it is a 4.0 liter

no the engines are not the same and the swap would just be a plug and play. up to the yr 2000 the enignes were an ohv config 2001 and up they switched to a sohc design. bottom end the same, but top end is completely different wiring harness is slighty different to i think an additional sensor somewhere could be wrong though. but engines are totally different from 1999 to a 2003. wouldnt work with out extra elbow grease
