Hello, does anybody know if there are two different lower intake manifold gaskets that you can use ? I bought a head gasket kit for my 97 ranger stx ,4.0 ohv 4wd supercab the heads had 95 tm casting numbers with a one piece intake gasket , in other words the original gasket goes from one head to the other . The new gasket is two seperate pieces and there are a couple of strange holes plus if I use these two piece gaskets I'm going to have to use silicone rtv to seal the case to manifold seams where the old style gasket would have had metal and rubber there .Does anybody know what I'm talking about ? Maybe I'll have to take some pictures and post them .Anyway any help would be appreciated . Thanks Yorgy

its possible you have the OHC gaskets, other than that I'm not aware of different style gaskets for the OHV
SVT

Thanks

Yeah I think I'm going to get the same style gasket as before .What the hell I don't want to have to take it apart twice . Thanks yorgy

the ohv manifold gasket is a one piece gasket, it is mostly metal with rubber on both ends where it meets the block, and rubber around the intake and coolant ports.

They switched to using the two peice ones casue the single peice ones cause tollerance issues with the rubber gasket seal on the block and lower intake. It cause a lot of problems when people sent their heads out for machining and ended up having lower intake leaks cause the intake would sit low enough to provide a good seal to the heads. Just use some good liquid seal on the block.

Fel-pro has two different kits for the OHV....a one piece lower valley gasket and the multi-piece that uses rtv to seal the valley. Its personal preference....

yeah I just swapped a 95 4.0 with 65000 miles into my 99 ranger 4x4 and I used the 99 style gaskets from fel pro and they where the 2 piece gasket and the bead of sealant at both ends, runs perfect no problems, I had to use my 99 upper and lower intake because the motor I used had the egr valve system and my didn`t:icon_thumby:

I'd go for the two peice gasket and pick up a good tube of super black rtv. The tubes they include on those fel-pro kits are small as hell. I just set mine to the block last night and I'm glad I pick up a larger tube. I opened up the gasket set and they give you this tiny tube.

we'll see

Went with the one piece gasket .Funny thing after it's all over I found a slip of paper in the original gasket kit that explains that they (felpro) feel that they're new 2 piece gaskets do a better job of preventing leaks. Oh well yorgy
