I have a 94 ranger with the 4.0 and I got a burnt valve now I'm looking to replace the heads. Is there a better year to buy heads for that will bolt in? Is there a year that has better flowing head? I tried searching around but could not seem to find the answer I was looking for.
Thanks in advance.

I would just go with a set of heads from Alabama cylinder heads.

You can get a head (new casting, and better than OEM) with valves and springs for $185.

or kingcylinderheads.com there about 400 for a pair fully assemble with a lenghty warranty.

Ty sir I read thru most of that alot of good information.

Got it apart today and well 5 cylinders had visible cracks, 1 cyl was leaking a bit of antifreeze, and the cyl I thought had a burnt valve actually had a severely sunken valve seat.

What causes the issue with the valve seats? They all look a bit sunk but one was gone gone... Is it they are not hard enough? Or some thing else?

The rocker arms and pushrods wearing.

The 4.0 has a small problem of little oil getting into the rocker arm socket. This wears the pushrods and rocker arms. It doesn't help the rockers are made from a "softer" material. When it gets enough "play" it starts to load the valves to one side, really meassing up the valve seats.

To FIX this problem, check out deltacams rocker arm and push rod kit.

http://www.deltacam.com/index.php

It's the F-40 kit at the bottom right of the page. Get yourself a set of the Alabama or King cylinder heads, and this kit, and it'll "fix" the quirks the 4.0 has.

Thanks for the information and the link!
