Where can I find the little shock that bolts to the frame and the engine? What is it's actual name and purpose or do I even need it? Mine is broke and I can't find one. Thanks

Yep, you need it. Saves wear on the motor mounts, controls torque when you get on it, hit bumps at full throttle, go to one of the parts houses and look at their computer parts catalogue. Beats me what the thing is called - bet there is an acronym for it though.

Thanks!! It is listed as a vibration damper on the online catalog. It retails for around $170 and the site list it for $140. I don't have any idea how long it had been broke or even what good it was doing as it is completely wore out anyhow. I think I'll sleep fine with out it until I come across a cheap one.

i just found this post after i posted a similar one. i've called dealers across the country and been doing search. not on parts locators and out of production. last installed on 97 ranger............. i posted maybe someone found a similar cylinder to replace on it.

i read some post on here months ago that u dont need it and infact alot of the models dont come with them, im not saying i am right, but i was about to tear mine off last week because i read u dont really need it lol.

I did find it on another one of the part sites for $118.31. It is the engine bracket and the "shock". I am not sure if would be backordered or not as I didn't try to order it. It is listed as a 93-97 part. From what I could see 98 on still used one, but it was on the passanger side of the engine. I will look at my dad's 04 to see if it has one. I am thinking the rubber engine mounts should dampen vibration more than this little shock.

It's called a torque strut. I've seen some trucks with them and some without. Mostly on 91's is all I've seen them on. Although my 91 sport does not have one.

Yep - they are ignoring the idea that maybe the motor mounts on the ones that don't have the torgue strut are different. My 99 has one.

If I needed a replacement I'd put a WTB on this site - sounds like a lot of people have taken them off.
