So in my effort to determine if I want to keep the 4.0 that's in my truck with 140,000 miles on it. I finally got the spark plugs pulled had the engine checked out by my trusted shop.

Seems there is a very slight intake leak of anti freeze into one of the cylinders. It must be very slight because I've not had to add coolant in almost a year. He does NOT feel it's a head gasket.

New plugs, oil change, gas filter.. Now getting very little to no ping of reg gas. (this is why I wanted it checked out)

Doing the Intakes and valve cover gaskets is something that seems to just be part of owning a 4.0. ( We can do that!)

Some of you may remember that I have a 98 4.0 and 5 speed in storage. (62,000 on donor OD)

Anyway. I've had 5 people tell me "oh you very little rust on such an old truck!!" (why I bought it)

"Do intakes and vale cover gaskets." Keep the engine, no need to change it out at this time." (still undecided)

A4ld is bad.. needs rebuilt.. (still working well enough to drive everyday) I hate automatics and want that M5OD in there!

. May be a different case I only drove e 150 with the 4lo ? Never needed anything. I had a few Torque Flites and they didn't require much. As much as you dislike A/Ts/, slippage may be just a clogged filter. It happened to me with a 727 Torque Flite. The mantra I was told was to just add ATF, dont change it. Unh unh, better to change ATF upon purchase. And every so often afterward. Best is a slow leak in the output seal. I had a '74 Dart that leaked a pint a month. The perfect under car rust proofing system. It would take off OK, but take a few second to shift into 2. Top off time for the 727 in that. A qt low and the 4 spd AT in my 88 528e would get very weird

He did new motorcraft plugs too. it's running very very smooth and idles like not sure it's running except for the 500 rpm showing on the tach LOL
