4.0 coil pack .... solenoid thing..

Truck has no spark so i am suspecting the solenoid thing on the coil pack. It was ripped off at one point and electrical tapped back on. What is this thing called? I have searched the forums but found no answer.
Please help

Got a picture? Only thing I remember being on the side of the coil pack was a (capacitor i think) most people around here call them condensers. It's just a little round metal thing with one wire.

The capacitor will not make it not spark. The coil produces a lot of EMF noise, enough to damage sensitive electronics like the engine computer and the ignition module and interfere with the radio it something isn't done with it. The capacitor catches it and runs it to ground. Aside from that it has very little to do with the ignition system.

Get a test light, make sure you have power to the red wire at the coil with the key on, then make sure that the other 3 get pulsed when the engine cranks. To test that hook your test light to the battery + terminal, put the point in the connector so it touches the metal pin, and then crank the engine. The light should flash or glow dimly.

12volt power for the coil is like this:
Battery-----key switch------EEC relay-------coil

The EEC relay should be in the power box in the engine compartment.
