Have to buy an new clutch, starter and flywheel anyway. Only a few bucks more for the 4.0L parts, I read the conversion in the tech library for swapping a 4.0 into a 2.9L , but will this still work for the 2.8L engine with the pilot bearing in the crank? Also, will the 2.8L throwout bearing work? The truck has the Toyo 5-speed trans.

The pilot bearing is in the flywheel on the 4.0 flywheel.

I do believe it will still work with the older style slave cylinder.

You will have to rewire the starter. You will need to run a 16AWG wire from the start side of the starter solenoid and move the current starter wire to the battery side. The 4.0 starter uses a constant hot to the starter and a trigger wire.

Just a thought......

If his original pilot bearing was in the crank, wouldnt his input shaft on the Toyo be too long to use the pilot on the 4.0 flywheel?

true though the bushing holder presses out of the flywheel.yoyo-you might want to find some used 4.0l parts and see if your trans will work with it

Good call. Isn't the 4.0 flywheel deeper, stick out farther from the block, than the stock 2.8 flywheel?
