ok i was wondering what year did ford change to the sohv motor in ranger

On the Ranger, 2001 was the first year for the SOHC.

On the Explorer, I want to say '95 or '98 was the first year for the SOHC. There were a few years there that Ford offered BOTH 4.0's in the Explorer.

ok next question are the motor mounts the same in the sohc as in the ohc

acually if im not mistaken, i think 97 ranger had an option of sohc or ohv?

Nope, you're mistaken - SOHC was not available in the Ranger series trucks until 2001 - availability in the Explorer lineup started in 1997 though.

does anyone know if the motor mounts are the same for both 4.0s?

Can I do a Cam sawp on a OHV motor. I was just thinking i have a solid block and if it all bolts up it could be a cool project.

The only thing the two engines have in common is the advertised displacement.

say, don't the OHV's have some weird shock thing between the frame and the engine?
