4.0 Barely running

I have a 93 Ranger 4x4 w/4.0 5-speed. About a month ago it started running really rough and lacked power. I drove it for about 2 weeks like that then it sat for a week or so and I replaced the fuel filter a few days ago. The first morning I drove to work after changing the filter it started right up and ran like new for about 8 miles on the freeway then just before i got to my exit it started popping and backfiring i pushed on the gas and nothing happened until i pushed it all the way down then it barely accelerated it ran like that about a mile off the freeway to work.after work it ran like that until about 3 miles from my house then the check engine light came on and it ran perfect. Parked it for the night and this morning the check engine light wasnt on but it did the exact same thing it started running bad at the same spot on the freeway and the check engine light came on at the same spot on the way home. i used a jumper to get the codes 172, 173, 176, 177, 181, 182, 188, 189 i have no idea where to even start looking i would appreciate any advice or ideas.
