According to lmc, the 2 core radiator for the ranger 4.0 has the same dimensions as the standard 2.9's radiator except it's 1 5/8ths thicker. I don't think the fan gets relatively near that. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

How hot does it get in your area?

It fits almost perfectly, the only fitment issue being the angle of the lower connection, easily fixed by changing the lower hose.

If your area doesn't regularly get near triple digit temps you may find that the engine has trouble staying at full operating temp. Many people who live in middle and northern US areas have reported loss of fuel economy and the engine not staying at temp after putting the bigger rad in because it floods the engine with more cold coolant than it was designed for.

But wouldn't installing a higher temperature thermostat cure the cold coolant issues?

It could, but do you really want to risk that on an engine that already self destructs when overheated when not replacing the radiator that isnte causing provlems will get the same result?

I live in las Vegas and it gets frickin hot here! I did the 4.0 rad Swap along with replacing the entire cooling system, and haven't had a single problem since. The 4.0 radar upper outlet is a different angle all you have to do is trim the upper hose a little and it works beautifully.

I live in michigan have the 4.0 radiator in my bronco II, my fuel economy didnt go down, just takes a few more miles to come up to temp for heat, it wont make your motor run cooler your therastat makes your heat control. The radiator capacity insures that you have better cooling capacity to keep you from over heating in the heat, towing, low speed trail running. Etc
