Found out this morning I got a leaky slave cyl again... (94 supercab, 4.0, M50D).... This is getting VERY frustrating as I've had to drop the tranny 3 times already to replace bad cylinders, all of them this year.... the last time I went for the LUK one and it failed on me too... :annoyed:

I'll add that I do know how to drive a stick and I don't spend all the time with my foot on the clutch pedal or anything. I only use DOT 3 fluid from a reputable brand and there is the fact that the temperature here hits 100-something pretty often in the summer, in case that has something to do with the cylinder failing on me........

Does anyone know if there is any sort of "high performance" or better brand of slave cylinders than the stock (LUK) brand? I'm seriously thinking of selling the frikin' truck out of being tired of dropping the tranny every time I have this problem, and I think I will if I can't find a slave cyl brand that will last me more than 3 months without starting to leak..... Also have heard so many bad things about the A4LD than I'm beginning to wonder if Ford was thinking at all when they designed these truck's drive trains....

Hope someone can help. :dunno:

Sounds like either something's wrong in your clutch system or that's some seriously bad luck you've had.
The slave I put in my BII has been fine for 4 years or so (unfortunately I don't remember what brand it was, though it was just your regular everyday replacement slave which IIRC was from from Pep Boys). My Ranger is still on it's original slave (16 years).

Have you thoroughly flushed the master out? Perhaps there's some debris in the system causing the slaves to fail? I'm not sure what else it could be. Maybe see if it helps to everything together as a system (master, clutch hose & slave).

Thanks for the reply, the last time I replaced the slave I actually replaced the master cyl as well... Now that you mention it, I have been using the same (factory installed 16 yrs ago) clutch hose and it does look old.. The full kit -includes pre-filled master, slave and hose- from rockauto is $210 shipped.. brand is brute power / perfection clutch.. anyone?? :icon_confused:.

btw, long time no see junkie, since an AC problem last year :icon_cheers:

I'm not familiar with Brute Power. However I would think anything from LUK would be decent (I know the clutches themselves are). See if they have an assembled kit available (or at least all the parts).

A/C holding out ok?

Cold as a penguin's butt :yahoo:

The LUK pressure plate and press I installed is good so far, and according to reviews the Brute Power is a Borg-Warner design for what is worth... The last cylinder that failed on me is a LUK one but then again it wouldn't be fair to blame it knowing that the line is old and in not so good condition. I'll see if I can find an assembled kit from them and will search for reviews. Will keep you posted in anything I find! :icon_thumby:

I've done a slave on all three M5OD equipped trucks I've owned, and I've never had an issue afterwards with the Raybesto's brand parts I've been using.... Not to say you'd have any better luck with them, but maybe it's worth a shot?

Now that you mention it, I used to own a 94 with a 3.0 and a M50D and I installed a Raybestos slave back in '07. I sold that truck to a friend and it's still running with no issues... I recall buying it at Checker, (was Living in Antigo, WI at the time) and looked for it here in SoCal at the local Kragen Auto Parts and didn't find any of the Raybestos stuff anymore since they got bought by O'Reilly...

Any idea who might still carry them??

Sorry, up here in Canada our stores despite being owned by the same parent company usually go by a different name.... I got mine at our local G-max aka. Bumper-Bumper. Should also be available at partsource or Napa.

Well the Brute Power master and slave and line came in the mail today.... I'm doing the work this weekend and will post pics.... Hope 4th time's the charm :annoyed:
