A guy not too far from me is parting out his 2002 Eddie Bauer exploer with the 4.6L v8. I think this can bolt up to my 2005 B4000 4wd with an adapter to the TC? Also not sure about the wiring but it sounds like it would not be as plug and play as 01 and previous explorer 5.0L V8 swaps.

Is there much to gain with the 3rd gen v8 vs the 2nd gen? Could I build it into a 5.0L?

The 4.6 is absolutely nothing like a 5.0. Drastically different engine platforms. The 4.6 is much wider than a 5.0 and will not easily fit into a ranger without alot of custom work. None of the wiring is "plug and play" you need the whole harness from the donor vehicle.

Thanks Dirt/Angie. I got under it and yeah it is completely different...
Honestly I was driving to check the truck out when i posted (lazy I know). He had 2 people coming tonight from out of town so I wanted to beat them to it if it was a deal! Knew someone would be able to know off the cuff, why I love this community!
